Updated Competition Table
As of 6/13/14
(Friday the 13th)
Here is an updated competition table to reflect the new horses that have been added recently. The animals are in alphabetical order. The tack that best suits the animal is also listed. The higher the number, the better the horse does in that competition. For example, a 6 means that competition works the horse's top 3 skills and a 0 or 1 means it works few or none of the top three skills. Check out the key at the bottom of the list if you don't recognize the codes. The key at the bottom is also color coded so that you can quickly find horses that are proficient in that competition.
Interesting side note: The Highland Pony, Holsteiner, Shetland and Trakehner have no competition that works all three of their top skills and the English Trot competition does not work any horse's top three skills.

  1. Very helpful especially for some of the newer breeds but I was just wondering why you have Quarter Horses with a 6 for galloping since the top 3 skills for that breed are stamina, dressage, and jumping. Wouldn't they be better suited for cross country than galloping? Or am I just missing something that you did to determine the galloping for them?

  2. In answer to the question above: The quarter horse's top three skills are gallop, dressage and speed. Galloping competitions work all of those speeds. If the 'quarter horse' you were looking at had top skills of stamina, dressage and jumping you were either not looking at a quarter horse or looking at a crossbreed. Thanks for checking out my blog, hope that helps to answer your question. :)

  4. Hi, I know you're no longer on Howrse and this blog is inactive but on the offchance that you might see this: you've listed Standardbred as specialising in Western; however I just completed the tutorial with a Standardbred and the game told me that this breed should specialise in Classical. I've been using your guide for several breeds on my other account) and so far it's worked really well for me so I'm just wondering whether I should listen to the game or go by what you've said? Either way, this blog has been super helpful and I'm so happy you left it up for reference!!
